This replaces the OpCode enum with a new Op enum which is guaranteed to fit in a
single byte. Instead of carrying enum variants with data, every variant that has
runtime data encodes it into the `Vec<u8>` that a `Chunk` now carries.
This has several advantages:
* Less stack space is required at runtime, and fewer allocations are required
while compiling.
* The OpCode doesn't need to carry "weird" special-cased data variants anymore.
* It is faster (albeit, not by much). On my laptop, results consistently look
approximately like this:
Benchmark 1: ./before -E '(import <nixpkgs> {}).firefox.outPath' --log-level ERROR --no-warnings
Time (mean ± σ): 8.224 s ± 0.272 s [User: 7.149 s, System: 0.688 s]
Range (min … max): 7.759 s … 8.583 s 10 runs
Benchmark 2: ./after -E '(import <nixpkgs> {}).firefox.outPath' --log-level ERROR --no-warnings
Time (mean ± σ): 8.000 s ± 0.198 s [User: 7.036 s, System: 0.633 s]
Range (min … max): 7.718 s … 8.334 s 10 runs
See notes below for why the performance impact might be less than expected.
* It is faster while at the same time dropping some optimisations we previously
performed.
This has several disadvantages:
* The code is closer to how one would write it in C or Go.
* Bit shifting!
* There is (for now) slightly more code than before.
On performance I have the following thoughts at the moment:
In order to prepare for adding GC, there's a couple of places in Tvix where I'd
like to fence off certain kinds of complexity (such as mutating bytecode, which,
for various reaons, also has to be part of data that is subject to GC). With
this change, we can drop optimisations like retroactively modifying existing
bytecode and *still* achieve better performance than before.
I believe that this is currently worth it to pave the way for changes that are
more significant for performance.
In general this also opens other avenues of optimisation: For example, we can
profile which argument sizes actually exist and remove the copy overhead of
varint decoding (which does show up in profiles) by using more adequately sized
types for, e.g., constant indices.
Known regressions:
* Op::Constant is no longer printing its values in disassembly (this can be
fixed, I just didn't get around to it, will do separately).

Nodes only have names if they're contained inside a Directory, or if
they're a root node and have something else possibly giving them a name
externally.
This removes all `name` fields in the three different Nodes, and instead
maintains it inside a BTreeMap inside the Directory.
It also removes the NamedNode trait (they don't have a get_name()), as
well as Node::rename(self, name), and all [Partial]Ord implementations
for Node (as they don't have names to use for sorting).
The `nodes()`, `directories()`, `files()` iterators inside a `Directory`
now return a tuple of Name and Node, as does the RootNodesProvider.
The different {Directory,File,Symlink}Node struct constructors got
simpler, and the {Directory,File}Node ones became infallible - as
there's no more possibility to represent invalid state.
The proto structs stayed the same - there's now from_name_and_node and
into_name_and_node to convert back and forth between the two `Node`
structs.
Some further cleanups:
The error types for Node validation were renamed. Everything related to
names is now in the DirectoryError (not yet happy about the naming)
There's some leftover cleanups to do:
- There should be a from_(sorted_)iter and into_iter in Directory, so
we can construct and deconstruct in one go.
That should also enable us to implement conversions from and to the
proto representation that moves, rather than clones.
- The BuildRequest and PathInfo structs are still proto-based, so we
still do a bunch of conversions back and forth there (and have some
ugly expect there). There's not much point for error handling here,
this will be moved to stricter types in a followup CL.

*Node and Directory are types of the tvix-castore model, not the tvix
DirectoryService model. A DirectoryService only happens to send
Directories.
Move types into individual files in a nodes/ subdirectory, as it's
gotten too cluttered in a single file, and (re-)export all types from
the crate root.
This has the effect that we now cannot poke at private fields directly
from other files inside `crate::directoryservice` (as it's not all in
the same file anymore), but that's a good thing, it now forces us to go
through the proper accessors.
For the same reasons, we currently also need to introduce the `rename`
functions on each *Node directly.
A followup is gonna move the names out of the individual enum kinds, so
we can better represent "unnamed nodes".

This uses our own data type to deal with Directories in the castore model.
It makes some undesired states unrepresentable, removing the need for conversions and checking in various places:
- In the protobuf, blake3 digests could have a wrong length, as proto doesn't know fixed-size fields. We now use `B3Digest`, which makes cloning cheaper, and removes the need to do size-checking everywhere.
- In the protobuf, we had three different lists for `files`, `symlinks` and `directories`. This was mostly a protobuf size optimization, but made interacting with them a bit awkward. This has now been replaced with a list of enums, and convenience iterators to get various nodes, and add new ones.

This is the most naive version of string interning possible - we store a
map from the string itself to the pointer behind a global mutex, and
memoize the allocation of all strings below a threshold length (16
bytes, for now) into that map. This requires leaking /all/ strings,
since it's not easy to know just from the pointer that a string has been
interned - so interning is disabled if string leaking is also disabled.
In the case where we're leaking strings (the default), even the naive
version of this gets us a pretty nice perfomance boost:
hello outpath time: [742.54 ms 745.89 ms 749.14 ms]
change: [-2.8722% -2.0135% -1.0654%] (p = 0.00 < 0.05)
Performance has improved.
However, in the case where we're not leaking strings, we have to keep
track of which strings have and haven't been interned, which makes this
a little worse:
hello outpath time: [779.30 ms 792.82 ms 808.74 ms]
change: [+2.5258% +4.0884% +5.8931%] (p = 0.00 < 0.05)
Performance has regressed.
Hopefully we can close the gap here a bit with some clever
tricks (coming next).

Default to always leaking strings, and copying strings by copying
pointers rather than cloning the underlying allocation. This (somewhat
bafflingly) doesn't seem to affect any benchmarks, but paves the way for
some tricks around string allocation that do.
Unfortunately, we can't do this (yet?) for contextful strings, for
reasons I don't currently understand but which I will address later,
when I address contextful strings more holistically.
I've left a flag in here to disable this, both to test the cloning logic
for strings for when/if we decide to bring this back, and to allow
people who care more about memory usage than perf to disable leaking.

path_exists was returning an error when certain common IO errors were
encountered. e.g. in the path "/dev/null/.", path_exists would throw
an error because the underlying call to Path::try_exists threw an
error because null isn't a directory. But if null isn't a directory,
then the path is invalid, so this should really be returning
false. That's what nix's behavior is and that's what makes sense.

Now that we can bind (potentially lazy, potentially lambda-containing)
values in the REPL and then reference them in subsequent evaluations,
it's important that the values to which we construct shared references
are shared across those subsequent evaluations - otherwise, we get
panics due to unknown source map locations, or dropped weak references
to globals.
This change assigns both the globals and the source map as fields on the
Repl after the first evaluation, and then passes those in (to the
EvaluationBuilder) on subsequent evaluations.
On the EvaluationBuilder side, there's some panicking introduced - this
is intentional, as my intent is for the builder to be configured
statically enough that panicking is the best way to report errors
here (it's always a bug to misconfigure an Evaluation, and we'd never
want to handle it dynamically).

Juggle around the internals of the tvix-cli crate so that we expose the
Repl as a public type with a `send` method, that sends a string to the
repl and *captures all output* so that it can be subsequently asserted
on in tests. Then, demonstrate that this works with a single (for now)
REPL test using expect-test to assert on the output of a single command
sent to the REPL.
As the REPL gets more complicated, this will allow us to make tests that
cover that complex behavior.

Make constructing of a new Evaluation use the builder pattern rather
than setting public mutable fields. This is currently a pure
refactor (no functionality has changed) but has a few advantages:
- We've encapsulated the internals of the fields in Evaluation, meaning
we can change them without too much breakage of clients
- We have type safety that prevents us from ever changing the fields of
an Evaluation after it's built (which matters more in a world where we
reuse Evaluations).
More importantly, this paves the road for doing different things with
the construction of an Evaluation - notably, sharing certain things like
the GlobalsMap across subsequent evaluations in eg the REPL.

The laziness behavior differs from Nix's, but I think this is good:

Allow passing in a top-level env, a map from name to value, to
evaluation. The intent is to support bound identifiers in the REPL just
like upstream nix does.
Getting this working involves mucking around a bit with internals - most
notably, locals now only optionally have a Span (since locals don't have
an easy span we can use) - and getting that working requires propagating
some minor hacks to places where we currently *need* a span (and which
would require too much changing now to make spans optional; my guess is
that that would essentially end up making spans optional throughout the
codebase).
Also, some extra care has to be taken to close out the scope in the case
that we do pass in an env, to avoid breaking our assumptions about the
size of the stack when we return from the toplevel

We use the just-introduced file_type function in the EvalIO trait for

This means, we don't need to pass through filtered_ingest, and can
assemble the FileNode directly in that specific match case.
This also means, we can explicitly calculate the sha256 flat digest,
and avoid having to pipe through the file contents again (via
blob_to_sha256_hash) to construct the sha256 digest.

Both umounts happening from another process, as well as tvix-store
itself calling umount() on FuseDaemon will cause the FUSE worker threads
to terminate.
So far there was no nice way to wait on these threads to be terminated
from multiple places, causing the `tvix-store mount` command to only be
terminated if interrupted via ctrl-c, not via an external umount.
Update FuseDaemon to use a ThreadPool, which gives us a join primitive
over all threads, that can also be called from multiple places.
Await on a join() from there to end the program, not the ctrl-c signal
handler as it was before.
Using FuseDaemon from multiple tasks requires Arc<>-ing both the
ThreadPool as well as the inner FuseSession (which also needs to be
inside a Mutex if we want to unmount), but now we can clone FuseDaemon
around and use it in two places. We could probably also have used an
Option and drop the FuseSession after the first umount, but this looks
cleaner.

ClosureValidator was previously only suitable for a very narrow use case:
Validating incoming uploads, which are in leaves-to-root order.
This is because the ordering validation was hard-wired into the add()
function.
This
- Re-name ClosureValidator to DirectoryGraph, which is more suitable
since it actually stores the Directory structs and is drained in the end.
- Move the ordering-related logic to a separate OrderValidator, which
can be used independently.
- re-write DirectoryGraph to be a general purpose
validator which can accept the input in both orders
and can be drained in both orders as well.
This means the DirectoryGraph and OrderValidator can now serve
multiple new purposes:
- Validating the incoming closure on the client while downloading.
- Validating the incoming closure downloaded in a caching layer from the
`far` cache, and re-order it for insertion into the `near` cache.

The problem is that opentelemetry_otlp tonic batch exporter tries to
exports if either the `scheduled_delay` or if the
`max_export_batch_size` is reached. Per default the
`max_export_batch_size` is set to 512 spans, which means that we try to
export these spans once that counter is reached. Each export will then
try to connect to the exporter (if that not already happening) and will
result in a `tcp connect error`.
Increasing the max_export_batch_size to 4096 will then ensure that the
export only happens if the `scheduled_delay` is met after the 10
seconds.
`max_queue_size` is also increased, because `max_export_batch_size`
should not be greater than `max_queue_size`, so similar to the default
config its set to `max_export_batch_size * 4`.
This will reduce the amount of tries to otlp if the collector is not
available and otlp enabled.

Provide a new interface for forcing a flush of otlp traces and use this
interface to shutdown otlp prior to exiting tvix-store, either if the
tool was stopped with a SIGTERM or ended regularly.
This also fixes an issue where traces were not even exported if for
example we just imported 10 paths and never even emitted more than 256
traces. The implementation uses a mpsc channel so a flush can be done
without having to wait for it to complete. If you want to wait for a
flush to complete you can provide a oneshot channel which will receive a
message once flushing is complete.
Because of a otlp bug `force_flush` as well as
`shutdown_tracer_provider` need to be executed using `spawn_blocking`
otherwise the function will deadlock. See

that the *name* of each child node of a directory must be unique
across all three lists of children
- add missing closing parenthesis in castore's data model document
- replace "how" with "what" in the phrase "unclear how a ... would even
look like" in castore's why-not-git-trees document
- remove unnecessary articles in castore's blobstore chunking document
- add missing "y" to "optionall" in eval's compilation of bindings

* agenix has not been updated (https://github.com/ryantm/agenix/pull/241).
* wasm-bindgen bumped to 0.2.92 in Rust WASM projects
* 3p/lisp: port lispPackages from stable channel
The Lisp package set we are using (`pkgs.lispPackages`) is the "old
old" package set, whereas we were supposed to have been using
`pkgs.lispPackages_new` (which is the "old new" package set).
Either way we missed that train, and now there's a "new new" package
set, but with a twist: Lisp packages in nixpkgs are now tied to
their compilers, so the most generic way to access them seems to be
from `pkgs.sbclPackages`.
Switching to the packages from the "new new" package set doesn't
work: Lots of stuff stops building if we just switch the sources
over, and not everything is trivially fixable.
For now we stay on the lispPackages from the stable channel. We need
to look into the migration later.
Or rewrite panettone.
* tvix: update generated protobuf files
* 3p/nixpkgs: pick trunk from stable channel; newer versions try to
read files and do network I/O during build, but don't print enough
details in error messages to figure out why.
* 3p/overlays: remove tdlib override (nixpkgs is currently new enough)
* 3p/overlays: override telega.el sources while updates are lagging in
nixpkgs
* users/flokli/ipu6-softisp: update firmware paths, which NixOS now
stores zstd-compressed.

We don't use this in tvix-glue currently. A previous version of cl/11747
did, and I forgot to remove it afterwards.

This adds the tracing-indicatif crate, and configures it as a layer in
our tracing_subscriber pipeline to emit progress for every span that's
configured so.
It also moves from using std::io::stderr to write logs to using their
writer, to avoid clobbering output.
Progress bar styles are defined in a lazy_static, moving this into a
general tracing is left for later.
This adds some usage of this to the `imports` and `copy` commands.
The output can still be improved a bit - we should probably split each
task up into a smaller (instrumented) helper functions, so we can create
a progress bar for each task.

The derivation name for the check will now be calculated from the hash
of all Cargo related files (including in subdirs), this makes it less
likely for the drv to be cached and for CI to miss an outdated
Cargo.lock.

Cargo will now cause a rebuild whenever a new test case file is added.
Previsouly running `cargo test` after adding a new test case resulted in
that case not being picked up and ignored.

This one's relatively simple - we just check if the store path exists,
and if it does we make a new contextful string containing the store path
as its only context element.
Automatic testing seems tricky for this (I think?) so I tested it
manually:
tvix-repl> builtins.storePath /nix/store/yn46i4xx5alh7gs6fpkxk430i34rp2q9-hello-2.12.1
=> "/nix/store/yn46i4xx5alh7gs6fpkxk430i34rp2q9-hello-2.12.1" :: string
